Houston's 2020 Scholarship
Ascend Houston is proud to continue a long-standing tradition of honoring scholastic excellence and contribution to the community through our annual scholarship program. Every year, exemplary students are recognized during Ascend Houston’s Scholarship Ceremony, in which recipients will be awarded scholarships of $500 if graduating in December of the scholarship year or $1,000 if graduating thereafter.
For the 2020 Scholarship year, we are modifying our process in consideration of those dealing with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Consequently, we are opening our scholarship to any business major or minor undergraduate or graduate student attending a university or college based in Houston, TX. Finalist interviews will be held virtually, and the celebration dinner will be eliminated in order to focus our resources on providing more scholarships this year.
Applicants are encouraged to apply through Ascend Houston’s online application and provide an updated resume and current transcript to be considered. The selection process consists of an in-person interview and thorough review of the application, essays, transcript, and resume.

Application Timeline for 2020:

Application period: February 28, 2020 to April 30, 2020

Finalists will select an interview slot between May 17 and May 23, 2020. Interviews will be conducted via video conference this year.

Winner(s) notification: By May 31, 2020.
Annual Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:
-
Current enrollment at one of the colleges or universities based in Houston, TX (Update)
-
Minimum grade point average requirement of 3.2
-
Active involvement in the Pan Asian community at school or elsewhere
-
Full-time student status (minimum 12 semester hours or equivalent)
-
Current undergraduate sophomore, junior, or senior, OR graduate students in their respective school of business

Graduation date of December 2020 or later

Applications must be submitted by Thursday, April 30, 2020 (Update)

Candidates selected as finalists must select a date and time between May 17, 2020 and May 23, 2020 for a virtual interview (Update)

Winner(s) selected from the finalist pool will be notified by May 31, 2020

Winners will be recognized in a virtual meeting to celebrate their achievements, and a recording of this celebration will be posted on our website and social media accounts
What We Expect From Our Scholarship Winners:

Purchase of a student membership ($25) in Ascend Houston

Participation in one or more Ascend Houston events per year, specially those geared towards student members, including mentorship events, career development events, and cultural events

Continued involvement in the Pan Asian business community where they were active prior to winning the scholarship
